Illustrated scrolls—including this "Yahyōe Nezumi"—contains many images that indicates the book is about (not this real world, yet) fantasy world. One of the main elements are the clouds and fogs (gold ones in this scroll). Some clouds/fogs are blue, but luxurious ones (like this scroll) are gold made with gold powder and/or foil.
